This 35-minute webinar provides an introduction to NFPA 1971, Standard on Protective Ensembles for Structural Fire Fighting and Proximity Fire Fighting, and the UL certification program for this standard. Participants will gain a general understanding of the product standard, including design and performance requirements for structural and proximity fire fighting ensembles and components. Learn how to navigate a certification project, annual certification requirements, and tips and tricks to streamline the certification process.

About the Instructors

Amanda Newsom
Amanda is a UL Staff Engineer and reviewer for first responder personal protective clothing and equipment certifications. She holds a Textile Engineering degree from North Carolina State University and worked in the Thermal Protection and Comfort Center while attending School. Amanda is a member of four National Fire Protection Association standards development committees and represents UL as a voting member on those committees. One of those committees includes Structural and Proximity Fire Fighting Protective Clothing and Equipment which is responsible for revisions to NFPA 1971.

 

 

Caroline Graham
Caroline is a UL Project Engineer and handles projects for first responder personal protective clothing and equipment certifications. She holds a Mechanical Engineering degree from Vanderbilt University and has previously worked in the Industrial Garment Manufacturing industry for 5 years.

 

 

Paola Sanchez-Cruz
Paola is an Engineering Associate and handles projects for first responder personal protective clothing and equipment certifications. She has worked in different areas within the company including the Center of Excellence for Optical Fiber Performance Testing. Paola holds an Associate Degree in Laser and Fiber Optics Technology and attended Hofstra University for Environmental Engineering.
