Foundations of 3D Printing Workshop & Technology Demo - Singapore


The Additive Manufacturing industry is growing at an incredible pace. What was once the domain of select material engineers and designers utilizing the technology for “solid free-form fabrication” and “rapid prototyping”, 3D printing is now front page news impacting consumer, commercial and industrial markets. However, at the moment, the industry is also highly segmented and can be confusing to those not familiar with the technology, its processes, and applications.

Recognizing this technology is not only accelerating design and manufacturing innovation, but also the related knowledge and training needs of the marketplace, UL is introducing a tiered education series focused on 3D printing.

The first course in the series, UL’s Foundations of 3D Printing Workshop, is a discussion-oriented session in which participants receive comprehensive introductory knowledge of the 3D printing industry. Covering terms and definitions, software and hardware as well as discussing applications and case studies, you will begin to understand the benefits of 3D printing in a way that is relevant to your business needs.

Target Audience

This foundational course is for any business professional, engineer, or designer with a desire to learn about 3D printing and the Additive Manufacturing industry.

Proficiency Exam

Upon completion of this course students will receive a certificate of completion. Students who have completed the course will also be eligible to complete a proficiency exam. Upon successful completion of the exam, students will receive a certificate of proficiency which will be required for UL’s additive manufacturing professional certification program.

The course exam is administered online and will be available at any time following the completion of the course. Students will have up to 2 years to complete the exam after successful completion of the course.


Cancellation and Rescheduling Policy

Cancellation occurring two (2) weeks prior to the course date will be billed for twenty-five percent (25%) of the total registration amount. Rescheduling occurring two (2) weeks prior to the course date will be billed an additional ten percent (10%) of the total registration amount.


Meet the Instructor

Dr. Khalid Rafi: Dr. Khalid Rafi has over 14 years of experience in teaching and research and is one of the few established metallurgist in additive manufacturing. His research has focused on process optimization, materials characterization and developing structure-property correlations for metallic parts produced using additive manufacturing techniques including selective laser melting (SLM), electron beam melting (EBM) and ultrasonic consolidation (UC). He has published 23 research papers and is acting as reviewer for various reputed international journals. He completed both his Masters and PhD in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and received his bachelors from Kerala University in Mechanical Engineering.
