Introduction

Review the basic safety requirements in UL/IEC61010-1, the Standard for Safety for Measurement, Control and Laboratory Equipment and gain an in-depth understanding of the safety requirements that specifically apply to Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) in UL/IEC61010-2-201. The requirements that apply to PLCs come from a combination of both standards and the course content corresponds with the release of IEC61010-2-201 that will replace UL508 and EN/IEC 61131-2 for PLCs and the publication of UL61010-2-201 (with no national differences). This one-day course, designed for product designers and product and regulatory compliance engineers, also covers the major topics from UL61010-1.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:

  • Describe the motive behind the release of IEC61010-2-201
  • Explain how the transition will affect existing certified products and new product submittals
  • Identify specific clauses in IEC61010-1 Requirements General Rules
  • Identify specific clauses in IEC61010-2-201 Requirements
  • Explain how the combination of UL and IEC requirements could help in international certification
  • List examples of end use applications certified to IEC61010-2-201
