Dampers for Fire and Smoke Containment and Control – Educational Seminar


This educational seminar will provide basic knowledge and fundamental understanding of the testing and certification requirements for fire and smoke dampers. The participants will be given information about product standards, types of dampers, applications, test requirements for each damper type and more. It provides participants the opportunity to understand the importance of fire and smoke dampers and their different applications and installations. The seminar will also provide an introduction to the test standards for fire and smoke dampers including test methods and acceptance criteria for each type of damper. In addition, participants will learn about important reference materials for dampers.


Upon completion of this course, learners should be able to:

  • Describe the purpose of fire and smoke dampers
  • Identify various types of dampers and their applications
  • List the major tests for each damper type
  • Explain concerns regarding installation
  • List several reference documents to help choose, identify, and confirm dampers listed for the application intended
