This course discusses the following equation: safety equals knowledge plus awareness. It provides an overview of the field applications of safety concepts with emphasis on protection and prevention. The three causes of most safety hazards are vapors, ignition sources and ignoring correct operating procedures. This lesson describes how to measure hazardous conditions with monitors and detection equipment. Also discussed is the function and proper use of safety equipment such as respirators, air packs and extinguishers.
