This curriculum consists of a series of courses that cover the UL Luminaire ‘General Coverage’ Certification Program. It provides an overview of the basic safety requirements in UL 1598 that apply to all luminaires, and the specific requirements and constraints that apply to luminaire designs eligible for certification without the need for thermal testing or UL engineering evaluation.
The curriculum is designed for those responsible for the design, assembly, or production oversight of General Coverage luminaires subject to UL follow-up service and labeling. Completion of the curriculum will fulfill the basic qualification requirements for being designated as a Manufacturer's Technical Representative (MTR).
Below is a list of the modules covered in this curriculum. Each module should take approximately 30 - 45 minutes to complete.*

• Enclosures, Openings and Electrical Spacings
• Grounding and Bonding
• Markings and Installation Instructions
• Understanding Temperature Test-exempt Constructions
• Canadian and US National Variations
*This curriculum is self-paced so you may start and stop each module at any time without having to start over from the beginning of each module.
- Individuals to be designated as an MTR
