Fire Alarm Systems: UL Listing, Certification, Acceptance and Testing & Maintenance


Description

Fire Alarm Systems is a two-hour eLearning course that covers various aspects of alarm certification and the benefits of participating in the UL alarm certification program. The course describes the codes governing fire alarm system compliance, the benefits of certification to the monitoring company and property owner, and some common problems associated with system compliance.

This two-hour e-learning course will explain:  

  • How fire alarm systems qualify to receive an UL listing
  • How requiring an UL listing benefits those inspecting fire alarm systems (fire fighters, local inspectors, etc.)
  • How obtaining an UL listing benefits fire alarm system monitoring and servicing companies
  • How using an UL listed fire alarm system can benefit the owner of a property
  • Codes that govern fire alarm system compliance at UL and nationally
  • Common problems that stop systems from being compliant

  • Requirements for Transient Protection and Wiring
  • Requirements for Protection of Control Units
  • Requirements for Records and Record of Completion for Fire Alarm System

Module 3: Types of Systems

  • Descriptions of the following: Local system, Auxiliary systems, Remote Station fire alarms, Proprietary fire alarms, and Central Station fire alarms
  • Central Station Service requirements for response to system alarms according to NFPA 72

Module 4: Plan Review and System Acceptance

What must be included:

  • Administrative: Permit, License, Fees, UL Certificate of Compliance
  • Fire Alarm Equipment: Install instructions, List Information, Manuals, Cut sheets
  • Plans & Specifications: Drawings, Symbols, Floor Plans, etc.
  • Completion Documents: Initial Acceptance Test, Record of Completion, etc.
